Treat Yourself to an At-Home Facial with These 5 Steps

A pamper session is in order, ladies. It’s time to unwind, light some candles, and give yourself a much-deserved, wonderful at-home facial session. You are worthy of self-care and it’s good for your mind, body, and soul. So, relax, recharge, and refresh with the following guide for a DIY facial. It will feel so great that you’ll want to make it part of your regular skin care routine

Step 1: Cleanse

The base of any good skin care routine starts with a clean palette. Whether you’re using a cleansing oil or a purifying face cleanser, take your time to gently remove makeup, excess oil, dirt, and more from your pores. The best cleansers do not dry out your skin or strip it. Look for healthy, skin-loving ingredients to help care for and hydrate your skin, such as probiotics and superfoods. Your skin should be left feeling clean and ready for the remainder of your facial.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation is beneficial for removing dead skin cells and will help ensure the effectiveness of your facial serums and moisturizers. Once again, you don’t want to use a product that strips the skin of its natural oils. Apply a thin layer of an exfoliating bentonite clay mask onto your face and let it sit for five to 10 minutes. After that, moisten fingers, gently massage your face, and then remove the product with cool water. A bentonite clay mask with lactic acid will help draw out impurities, gently exfoliate, and promote the appearance of a more even skin tone. Seek out a mask that also contains antioxidant-rich ingredients such as blueberry extract to help hydrate and improve the look of skin tone.

Step 3: Tone

Now that your skin is clean and exfoliated it’s time to add a hydrating layer. Apply an alcohol-free toner gel with a cotton pad evenly over your face. Seek out one with hydrating ingredients such as beet and mushroom extracts, which are 400 times more hydrating than hyaluronic acid alone. Your skin should look hydrated and feel smooth. Turmeric extract is another powerful antioxidant to look out for that can help reduce the appearance of inflammation.

Step 4: Serum

Who doesn’t love a good serum? Now that you’ve cleansed, exfoliated, and toned your skin it’s now especially receptive to serum. Target the look of deep wrinkles and lines by adding a layer of serum rich in antioxidants such as blueberry and apple extracts. Probiotics are another excellent ingredient because of their hydrating properties. You may want to also use a separate eye cream or serum as well for the delicate eye area, especially if your eyes are looking puffy or tired.

Step 5: Moisturize

Seal the deal and wrap up your at-home facial by applying a moisture-packed facial cream. A few ingredients to look out for are watermelon extract because it’s a hydrating antioxidant, nourishing rice nutripeptides to strengthen the skin, and probiotics to lock in hydration.

If you’d prefer, you could instead use a thin layer of overnight cream before bedtime. Seek out one containing alpha hydroxy acids, which help the skin look smoother and firmer. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant to look for on the ingredient list as well that can help brighten the appearance of the skin. After your facial, you’ll feel great and look beautifully refreshed. Self-care never looked so good!
